American Cinematheque American Cinematheque's Egyptian Theatre
6712 Hollywood Blvd., CA, 323-461-2020

The legendary Egyptian Theatre was built in 1922 by theatre impresario Sid Grauman. It was the home of the first Hollywood Movie Premiere (ROBIN HOOD starring Douglas Fairbanks) and is the longest continually running movie theatre in Hollywood. It is a Los Angeles Cultural Heritage Monument. In addition to two auditoriums with stadium seating and state of the art sound and picture, the theatre has a 150 foot courtyard that is perfect for red carpet premieres and open air receptions. Steeped in Hollywood history (Charlie Chaplin attended on opening night), the movie palace is laden with Egyptian theme details on the inside and outside of the building and has excellent acoustics for live orchestra events. We host everything from premieres to meetings with Powerpoint presentations. We can exhibit the latest digital technologies as well as traditional film projection. The theatre is also available for daytime press screenings or meetings. Theatre style seating. The venue, under the ownership of the non-profit American Cinematheque, underwent a $15 renovation that was completed in December 1998.
