Hollywood Christmas Parade 11/25/2012
The Hollywood Christmas Parade will take place on Sunday, November 26th beginning at 6:00 p.m.  The parade will proceed down Hollywood Blvd., beginning at Highland Ave., to Vine Street, where it will head south.  The parade will then head west on Sunset Blvd. to Highland Avenue.  Parking restrictions and street closures will be in effect for many streets around Hollywood that day.  For information on where to park, click here.

Supperclub is a new restaurant and club - a mix of food, music, performance and art - opening up Halloween weekend in the historic Vogue Theater, built in 1934.  Members of the electronic band Ladytron will be DJ'ing opening night, Oct. 30th (tickets available online at www.ladytroninla.eventbrite.com).   This just may be the perfect place to celebrate the spooky holiday: the Vogue is said to be haunted.  According to legend, both an elementary school and a textile factory burned down on the spot where the Vogue was built, and numerous ghost sightings were made over the years.  The International Society for Paranormal Research (ISPR) even sat up shop in the theater in the late nineties; in 2001 they declared the property "cleared" of ghosts, but you be the judge.

Celebrate Italian food, culture and music at Hollywood's Feast of San Gennaro all throughout this weekend on Highland Avenue, south of Hollywood Blvd.  General admission is $5 (kids under 12 free), and gets you access to live music, street performances, strolling musicians, a kid's corner, and many rides and games.  The festival is inspired by Saint Gennaro, who was the patron saint of Naples, Italy, whose mission was to help people in need.  Today, the Feast of San Gennaro of Los Angeles raises funds to help resource-challenged children through mentoring, scholarships, and educational workshops.  Good food and good times, all for a good cause!  For details, visit www.feastofla.org.

Hard Rock Cafe opens it's doors on Hollywood Blvd. for the first time ever this Monday.  The 500-seat cafe and Rock Shop (featuring limited-edition merchandise and memorabilia) is located in the Hollywood & Highland complex in the site formerly occupied by Virgin Megastore.  Over 160 items of Rock and Roll history are displayed in the cafe, including a fedora worn by Michael Jackson and the lyrics to "LA Woman" handwritten by Jim Morrison of the Doors.

The Hollywood 4WRD (4 Walls, a Roof and a Door) coalition, in partnership with Common Ground, is seeking out approximately 40 volunteers to participate in Hollywood Homeless Registry Week, from April 25 - 30. The goal of Hollywood Homeless Registry Week is to create a by-name database of homeless individuals living on the streets who are most at risk of premature death. This prioritization will help the Hollywood community better allocate housing and supportive services resources to those most in need. The L.A. Marathon will celebrate its 25th anniversary on March 21. Featuring one of the most scenic and inspiring marathon courses in the world, the new "Stadium to the Sea" route starts at Dodger Stadium and ends at the beach. Along the way, the route will wind through a host of Los Angeles icons, including our very own Hollywood Boulevard. New for 2010, the LA Marathon will be hosting the Hollywood City Block Party (located within the courtyard of Madame Tussauds) to serve as a large community celebration and focal point of race-day entertainment  - including live music, a fan viewing area, live broadcast from Clear Channel, experiential areas, product samplings, and more. All members of the Hollywood community are invited to attend a walk survey event of the walking conditions in Hollywood. Beginning at 11a.m. at the Arby's on the corner of Sunset Boulevard and Tamarind Avenue, walkers will join the Hollywood Community Studio on a walk around Hollywood. Once the walk is complete, walkers will fill out a brief survey to help the HCS know more about the walking conditions in Hollywood and better advocate for walkability in the area. Don't forget to wear comfy shoes!

Friends of the Hollywood Entertainment District and Sunset & Vine BID are invited to attend a special screening of William Whyte's documentary, "The Social Life of Small Urban Spaces,'' in which Whyte explores the wondrous choreography of everyday city life. Commissioned by the Municipal Art Society of New York in 1980, the film takes a candid, yet thoughtful look at the behavior of pedestrians and people-watchers alike, and explores the hidden dynamics of what makes a place tick.
