Hard Rock Cafe Opening on Monday 7/19/2010 6801 Hollywood Blvd.
Hard Rock Cafe opens it's doors on Hollywood Blvd. for the first time ever this Monday. The 500-seat cafe and Rock Shop (featuring limited-edition merchandise and memorabilia) is located in the Hollywood & Highland complex in the site formerly occupied by Virgin Megastore. Over 160 items of Rock and Roll history are displayed in the cafe, including a fedora worn by Michael Jackson and the lyrics to "LA Woman" handwritten by Jim Morrison of the Doors.

Nike and The Montalbán have teamed up to bring the World Cup to Hollywood this summer, and the finals are coming up this weekend! Winner of the 2008 Tony Award for Best New Musical, the Broadway sensation "In the Heights" premiered in Los Angeles last month and was recently extended to run through July 25. Join Los Angeles City Council President Eric Garcetti and Los Angeles County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky to celebrate the Groundbreaking of the Villas at Gower, a four-story housing project being built for individuals and families who are homeless or at risk of being homeless, some with special needs. Walk of Fame Celebrates 50 Years 6/25/2010
One of Hollywood's most well-known attractions, The Walk of Fame, is celebrating it's golden anniversary this year. Coming up on June 25th, the band Rush will be receiving its own star with a ceremony at 11:30 a.m. in front of Musician's Institute, 6752 Hollywood Blvd. Many additional star ceremonies are planned to celebrate the milestone, along with a public festival and a gala celebration. California Dreamin' at Renaissance Hollywood 6/17/2010

Fringe Moves Forefront This Month in Hollywood 6/16/2010 King King, 6555 Hollywood Blvd.
Hollywood's first Fringe Festival kicks off it's ten-day run with an opening night party featuring performances ranging from the bizarre to breathtaking! Hollywood Entertainment District Board Member Ron Radachy and the Oasis of Hollywood (a community-based, non-profit organization that reaches out to at-risk children and teens) invite all to the 2nd Annual Road to Your Dreams Car Show. The fun takes place on Saturday, June 5, from noon to 4 p.m. in front of 1725 Ivar Ave. Come listen to live music and see an estimated 150 exotic and new cars. Raffle prizes, food and fun await attendees. The emphasis of the free community event is to take every teenager's dream of owning a car and provide them with avenues through which they can make that dream a reality. An action plan to target the transition of 10 of our most vulnerable neighbors from the streets into homes will be put into place immediately following. The Hollywood 4WRD (4 Walls, a Roof and a Door) coalition, in partnership with Common Ground, is seeking out approximately 40 volunteers to participate in Hollywood Homeless Registry Week, from April 25 - 30. The goal of Hollywood Homeless Registry Week is to create a by-name database of homeless individuals living on the streets who are most at risk of premature death. This prioritization will help the Hollywood community better allocate housing and supportive services resources to those most in need. Join the folks at the Hollywood Wilshire YMCA from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for "Healthy Kids Day," an outreach event designed to educate the children, teens and families of the Hollywood community about the importance of healthy living and physical fitness. Each year, nearly 1,000 children, teens and their families attend this event to obtain the latest information on healthy living. At this event, a full city block will be transformed into a free community-wide event, where a host of youth and family-oriented organizations will distribute information, provide services, and offer games and prizes for attendees. The L.A. Marathon will celebrate its 25th anniversary on March 21. Featuring one of the most scenic and inspiring marathon courses in the world, the new "Stadium to the Sea" route starts at Dodger Stadium and ends at the beach. Along the way, the route will wind through a host of Los Angeles icons, including our very own Hollywood Boulevard. New for 2010, the LA Marathon will be hosting the Hollywood City Block Party (located within the courtyard of Madame Tussauds) to serve as a large community celebration and focal point of race-day entertainment - including live music, a fan viewing area, live broadcast from Clear Channel, experiential areas, product samplings, and more. Walk Survey Event 2/27/2010
All members of the Hollywood community are invited to attend a walk survey event of the walking conditions in Hollywood. Beginning at 11a.m. at the Arby's on the corner of Sunset Boulevard and Tamarind Avenue, walkers will join the Hollywood Community Studio on a walk around Hollywood. Once the walk is complete, walkers will fill out a brief survey to help the HCS know more about the walking conditions in Hollywood and better advocate for walkability in the area. Don't forget to wear comfy shoes!

Friends of the Hollywood Entertainment District and Sunset & Vine BID are invited to attend a special screening of William Whyte's documentary, "The Social Life of Small Urban Spaces,'' in which Whyte explores the wondrous choreography of everyday city life. Commissioned by the Municipal Art Society of New York in 1980, the film takes a candid, yet thoughtful look at the behavior of pedestrians and people-watchers alike, and explores the hidden dynamics of what makes a place tick.
